WFFD extinguishes structure fire on Giddings Street

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Wichita Falls Fire Department responded to a structure fire dispatched to 1306 Giddings at 4 p.m. Seven WFFD units were on the scene along with 19 firefighters. The first engine said there was a fire originating from a detached building behind the house at 1:06 p.m.

The fire spread to the garage converted into an apartment for two people. The two residents were sleeping inside the apartment at the time of the fire. The owner of 1306 woke them up and got them out of the structure. The fire in the garage and apartment took about thirty minutes to extinguish. It took another thirty minutes to complete the salvage and overhaul.

Oncor was advised to respond to the scene as there were live power lines on the ground. The cause of the fire was the power line going to the apartment when it was disconnected from the building service. The entire garage was destroyed and the apartment suffered extensive damage to the exterior and attic. No injuries were reported by occupants or WFFD firefighters. Damage to both structures is estimated at $7,000.00. Estimated damage to contents is $1,000.00.
