The Padma Bridge, due to be inaugurated on Saturday, is not just a structure, it is a dream come true, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Friday.

“The nation is going to witness a momentous event tomorrow. It will be a moving moment marking a turning point in our national life,” he added.

“Building a bridge over the mighty Padma River has been a deep-rooted dream of the people as it will unite our nation I believe. But the challenges were enormous. There were plots from all directions,” Momen said in a video message. .

“All plots have been hatched to stop the construction of the Padma Bridge. But under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have overcome all challenges. We have defeated all plots. We have achieved victory,” said the minister.

On June 16, Momen said the World Bank (WB) should “apologize” and feel “sorry” for doing Bangladesh a “great injustice” by canceling funding for the Padma Bridge.

“There’s no guarantee that big institutions (like WB) will always do good things,” he added.
