Big Island firefighters responded Monday afternoon, July 25, to a structure fire in Pāhoa.

According to a news release from the Hawai’i Fire Department, the first units were on the scene just before 1:30 p.m. Monday at 12-0118 W. Moanauli Loop in Sea View Estates. Upon arrival, firefighters found two single-story wooden structures – a 30-by-40-foot house and a 12-by-12-foot storage room – partially involved in the blaze.

There were no occupants or anyone on the property at the time of the fire.

The fire was extinguished shortly after 2 p.m. and the last units were back in the quarters by 3:30 p.m. Seven fire department units responded. Hawaii Police Department officers also responded to create a safe scene as firefighters battled the blaze.

The scene was turned over to police and fire inspectors to investigate the fire and interview neighbors to determine the cause. Although no one was found inside the structures or on the property at the time of the fire, the fire department’s press release said the residence appeared to be occupied and in normal use.
